PROVO — A research of payday financing in Utah claims that standard payday lending cases are becoming a burden to Utah’s justice courts, but payday lenders are calling the analysis not just inaccurate, but misleading.
A new report by the Coalition of Religious Communities states that cash advance collections and claims constitute 37 per cent of most situations in Utah’s justice courts.
Linda Hilton using the Coalition of Religious Communities said it’s since high as 80 per cent in Provo, and it is mostly as a result of one company that is large Check City. The lending company mandates with its contract that most prosecutions happen in Provo, that will be in which the business’s headquarters are situated.
“We visited court 1 day, as well as in 35 mins, they looked over nearly 800 situations,” Hilton said.
But Reannun Newton, Provo City Justice Court administrator, said it isn’t something which is blocking up their court system.
“since most of them head to default, they plan pretty quickly,” she stated, describing that in a day that is typical the court has around 300 cash advance situations, but just 10 people reveal in the court to contest it.
